1. Who we are

These websites are operated by Firstsight Opticians, a family-run, independent group of opticians and hearing care providers in the West of Scotland ("the Group", "we", "us"). The Group operates seven practices under four trading names:

• Firstsight Opticians — Johnstone (7b Houstoun Square, PA5 8DT) and Renfrew (44–46 High Street, PA4 8QP)
• Bonellie Opticians — Irvine (20 Eglinton Street, KA12 8AS), Largs (101 Main Street, KA30 8JJ) and Stewarton (20 Main Street, KA3 5AE)
• J. Lindsay Opticians — Kilmarnock (59 The Foregate, KA1 1LU)
• Aitchison Opticians — Greenock (32 Ardgowan Square, PA16 8NJ)

These terms apply to firstsightopticians.co.uk, bonellieopticians.co.uk, jlindsayopticians.co.uk and aitchisonopticians.co.uk, which are one website presented under our four brand names. Our optometrists are regulated by the General Optical Council. For general website enquiries, email enquiries@web.firstsightopticians.co.uk.

2. About these terms

By using any of our websites you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site. These terms cover your use of the website; separate terms may apply to specific purchases or services and will be made clear to you at the time.

3. Use of the website

You may use the site for your own personal, non-commercial purposes. You must not misuse the site, including by attempting to gain unauthorised access to it or its underlying systems, introducing malicious code, submitting false or misleading information through our forms, using automated tools to scrape or overload the site, or using it in any way that breaks the law or infringes anyone's rights. We may suspend or restrict access to the site at any time, including for maintenance.

4. Clinical information — important disclaimer

Content on this site is provided as general information only. It is not clinical advice and is not a substitute for an eye examination, hearing assessment or medical advice from a qualified professional. Do not delay seeking care because of something you have read on this site.

If you have an eye emergency — such as sudden loss of vision, flashes and floaters, eye pain or injury — please telephone your nearest practice during opening hours, or contact NHS 24 on 111 when we are closed. Do not use the online booking system for emergencies. Several of our optometrists are Independent Prescribers and can manage many urgent eye conditions.

5. Online booking

You can request or book appointments through the booking system embedded in our site, which is operated by a third-party provider, Xeyex. A booking or booking request is not confirmed until the practice confirms it. We may contact you to verify details or offer an alternative time.

If you cannot attend, please give the practice reasonable notice so the appointment can be offered to someone else. Where NHS appointments are repeatedly missed without notice, the practice may be unable to continue offering appointments.

6. NHS and private services

NHS-funded eye examinations are free of charge for people who are ordinarily resident in Scotland and eligible under NHS General Ophthalmic Services. For NHS examinations we submit claims to NHS National Services Scotland (Practitioner Services).

Private services — including enhanced eye examinations with OCT scanning, contact lens services (including overnight ortho-k night lenses), myopia management for children, home visits, hearing assessments, hearing aids and ear wax removal — are charged at the fees shown on our prices page. Fees will always be confirmed with you before you are charged. Please note that a fee applies for ear wax removal appointments where no wax is found; details are on our prices page. Our free hearing screener is provided without charge.

7. Products

Spectacles and contact lenses are custom-made to your individual prescription. Because they are made to your specification, you do not have a legal right to return them simply because you have changed your mind — consumer law does not give a change-of-mind cancellation right for goods made to the consumer's specification. Your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 are unaffected: if a product is faulty, not as described or not fit for purpose, you are entitled to the remedies the law provides, and we will put things right.

Hearing aids are supplied with a 14-day trial, as described to you at the time of purchase.

If you have any concern about a product, please contact the practice that supplied it as soon as possible.

8. Prescriptions

After your eye examination you are entitled to a copy of your spectacle or contact lens prescription (following the completion of any contact lens fitting), which you may take to any supplier of your choice.

9. Payment

Payment for private services and products is taken at the practice. Prices for private services are shown on our prices page and confirmed before any charge is made. The website does not take online payments.

10. Intellectual property

The content of this website — including text, images, logos and branding — is © Firstsight Opticians (including its Bonellie, J. Lindsay and Aitchison trading names) unless otherwise stated. You may view and print pages for personal use, but you must not reproduce, republish or commercially exploit site content without our written permission.

11. Third-party content and links

The site includes content and services provided by third parties, including the Xeyex booking widget and Google Maps embeds on practice pages. These are subject to those providers' own terms and privacy practices, which we do not control. Links to external websites are provided for convenience; we are not responsible for their content.

12. Customer reviews

Reviews displayed on this site are genuine quotes from public Google reviews of our practices. They reflect the individual reviewer's own experience and opinions.

13. Limitation of liability

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be excluded or limited by law. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer, or the professional duties we owe you as a patient.

Subject to the above, the website is provided "as is" for general information. We do not guarantee that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or always up to date, and we are not liable for loss arising from reliance on website content (as opposed to advice given to you in person by our clinicians), or for events outside our reasonable control.

14. Your privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information — including appointment bookings, enquiry and reminder forms, clinical records, and the cookies and similar technologies used on this site — and your rights under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. 15. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time, for example to reflect changes in our services or the law. The current version, with its effective date, will always be published on this page. By continuing to use the site after changes take effect, you accept the updated terms.

16. Governing law

These terms are governed by Scots law, and the Scottish courts have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them or from your use of the site. If you are a consumer, you keep the benefit of any mandatory statutory rights and protections that apply to you, and nothing in these terms takes those away.
